Clan Duncan Shelties Home

It's spring on the Hill.

Hello, friends. Sorry it has been so long since I updated the Hill. I've missed you! You have arrived on Antelope Hill, a place where spring has come lately, and coldly, to the high desert. The site navigation buttons are at the bottom of the page, so scroll all the way down to find our Shelties and the Sheltie art, stories, and articles. But Antelope Hill is more than just the Shelties. Do come in, and don't forget to bring your imagination. Since we last met, there have been changes on the Hill. Come in for some hot tea, and let's talk.

Sorry it has been so long since this update.

Welcome to Antelope Hill near the end of a cold spring.

Welcome to the Hill as we recover from a very late heavy snowfall! You have now stepped from the outside world onto Clan Duncan Virtual Hill.  Antelope Hill is a real hill, a little bump of land somewhere in the West. We invite you to linger on the Hill in the late spring. We've had much rain and snow this spring, much of it in May. The desert grasses are tall and the wildflowers are everywhere. The last time this desert had a wildflower year was 1993. Come enjoy it with us!

Can you believe it? I can't.

I'm official.

Well, I did it. I retired! I stayed retired for a day. Now I am working as a temporary to finish up one of my old projects, but in a week or so, true freedom will be mine. For years I have longed for more time for art, writing, puppies, and travel -- not to mention finishing the house! It has been so long since we had a real home . . . If you wish to contact me, please email me at danaq@aol.com.  If I don’t reply, please try again – sometimes I get so many emails in a day that one can be overlooked. But I do my best to reply to each one.

Be sure to place your mouse over all the images, great and small, for more text. That is how I always get the last word!

20 years from now, Shelties will be born in huge kennels of high-tech corporations, not in modest places like the Hill's kitchen. There will no longer be breeders like me who have studied their breed and know the great dogs of past and present. When you vote for regulating the keeping and breeding of dogs, you drive another nail into our coffins. The commercial pet breeders will soon be the only ones with enough money and power to comply with the increasing regulation of pet breeding.

Here's the News!

Clan Duncan Andromeda, our beautiful girl puppy.

Andie

Above is our lovely puppy girl, Andie, beginning her show career by taking a major Reserve under Dr. Lee Reasin at the SSC of Southern California. This photo is by Jan Haderlie. A great Sheltie should be curvy, not boxy. We think Andie is a very good example of curvy! Andie has since gone on to do more winning. See below:

More of our beautiful puppy girl.

Andie, Best of Breed, Rio Hondo KC.Andie, Best of Breed, Gavilan KC.

Here she is going WB, BW, BOB at Rio Hondo (left) and at Gavilan (right, still with photographer's pink proof marking on it). But for her BEST win and photo, you will have to go to the new Puppy Page (nav button at bottom of this page)! Also on the new Puppy Page -- Asher's placement at the National!

Go to the Puppy Page to see Asher.

Don't miss the Hill Page this time. It's Pages!

As always, there is a new Hill Page. On the new Hill Page, you will find the fun things I made for this years National banquet, wildflowers from Tucson, wildflowers from the Hill, the 2010 Clan Duncan Easter Egg Hunt, a new photo of Mattie, a late-May snowstorm, the Alamo (? Yes, the Alamo!), and more. This time there is a biiiig Hill Page! In fact, it's Hill Pages. To get to the Hill Page, scroll down toward the bottom of this page, and you will find the Hill Page button.

Two lovely boys are available now.

PHOTO COMING SOON.

If you are a frequest visitor, you know it isn't often that we have one of our little ones available, so this is your chance. Available to a forever home is our very, very bright blue Philip, above. Philip is sired by Ch. Galen out of a daughter of Ch. Kismet's Zarak. He is nine months old. Philip is a little too large for the show ring, but he would be wonderful for performance because he is calm, steady, playful, and a real thinker. Philip has one blue eye and one brown eye, naturally tipped ears, a nice coat, elegant neck, and is a lovely powder blue color. He will be a great best friend and life companion. Also available to just the right home is a beautiful larger bi-black yearling boy, Batman, who has a darling, very affectionate temperament and is also very bright. He is a litter brother to Andie and looks much like her. Batman is a deeply faithful boy and will make a once-in-a-lifetime friend. If you are interested in either fellow, please email me at danaq@aol.com.

Extended Family News.

Here is MacDuff.

One of our little fellows went to a new home in early spring. This is Zulu, now known as MacDuff, an elegant bi-black boy from the Little Styx litter. We miss his cheerful spirit. Happy doings, MacDuff and Tina!

Please click the wording above to go with us on our last trip to Australia (I am going to leave this up just a bit longer, by request.) Here you will see parrots, reef fish, the red desert, giant lizards, rainforest birds, and the other wonders we encountered.

Fine purebred dogs will disappear soon. Restrictive legislation will eliminate good breeders. It is ironic that this legislation looks so good on the surface and is sponsored by so-called 'Animal Rights' organizations. They are dangerous to our civil liberties but hide behind a veil of kindness when control is their real agenda.

Please help me find descendants of my old dogs.

I am still looking for dogs down from the “old” Clan Duncan Shelties. Recently I have been glad to see a number of new descendants of little Clan Duncan Faith to Live Bi and (of course) her mother Clan Duncan Blackberry Bi. I am still searching especially for any Sheltie with  either one of these two in the pedigree:  Clan Duncan Midnight Special, or Clan Duncan Puff of Smoke.  Recently I was very excited to find a bi-blue fellow down from Midnight and several of my other old dogs. This is the very beautiful Maramet Capture the Spirit. I saw Spirit when I was in Tucson for the Sheltie National. He is ten years old, but I am very much hoping I can send one of our girls to him soon. Please let me know if you come across any descendents of any of the old Clan Duncan dogs. A caveat here -- there are uncountable descendents of Tinsel (Clan Duncan Banchory Bluette) because she was the dam of Ch. Banchory Thunder Blue, ROM and thus the granddam of Ch. Banchory Deep Purple, ROM.

Do stay awhile and explore the other pages, and visit the Hill again soon.

Please do not forget the displaced families and dogs caught in the economic meltdown, and help them if you can.

Time for some warm weather!

Respect your Shelties.
